The 36 top scoring bands from regionals (along with outstanding Small School Bands) are invited to perform at the State Concert Band Festival. The festival is held over two days in the fantastic facility at the University Center for the Arts at CSU - Ft. Collins. Outstanding national judges and clinicians provide audio commentary and written evaluations as well as a 25 minute clinic, off-stage. A high quality performance recording is also provided. As with all CBA Festivals, students are assigned listening blocks to learn from and support other bands.
Four additional performance times have been added to the state festival and reserved for the finest Small-School bands that would not otherwise qualify. The top four bands from schools under 1000 students, scoring at least a Division II Rating or specially selected by the judges, will be invited to fill the additional performance times. If no qualifying small school bands are available to fill these times, the next highest scoring bands from regionals will be invited.
Participating bands can elect to perform at the State Festival for Ratings or Comments Only.
Bands qualifying for state: “Your ensemble’s state program must include new repertoire from your regional program. Swap a piece, add a piece or movement - but remain at or under 20 minutes”
A list of invited bands and a registration link will be posted on the Concert Band page of the CBA website (www.coloradobandmasters.org) as soon as possible after the conclusion of the Regional Week. The State Registration fee is $400. Bands are assigned to Monday or Tuesday performance times based upon a blind draw, with multiple qualifying bands from the same school scheduled on the same day. Directors must be CBA members to participate.
